The Mini–C Arm X-ray machine was funded by the MITRE Trust for Musgrave Park Hospital Theatres. This relatively new technology is used in hand, foot, and ankle surgery where there is any metal work being used, such as in wrist or ankle joint replacements. Both the patient and theatre staff receive far less radiation exposure from the x-rays thanks to the machine’s use of digital imaging technology. The machine is compact, light, and easy to position and move around theatres. An additional benefit is that surgeons can operate it themselves and no longer have to wait for a radiographer to be called to the department. The Orthopaedic Theatre staff have described the Mini-C Arm as a very welcome clinical asset to the department.
