Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Machine – £12,000

Patients with long standing Achilles tendon problems and heel pain often find it difficult to get the symptoms to settle.  After physiotherapy, orthotics and numerous other interventions, the pain can still be there at a debilitating level.   Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is a technique that has been shown to improve outcomes in those patients unresponsive to the standard treatment protocols.  The MITRE Trust has provided funding for the Foot and Ankle Clinic to obtain a shockwave machine for use on patients here in Musgrave Park Hospital.  Certified training and education regarding the use of the machine will be rolled out to other departments soon.
